Bringing producers to account for their waste!
The results are in!
Thank you to the hard work done by those who took part in the brand audit 2019 in Ireland.
You were part of over 72,000 volunteers in 484 clean ups across 6 continents. You identified almost half a million pieces of plastic and now your work has been brought together to produce the new 2019 brand audit report : “BRANDED Volume II: Identifying the World’s Top Corporate Plastic Polluters.”
Once Again CocaCola comes out on top as the most identified companies in the global audit followed by Nestlé, and PepsiCo.
“This report provides more evidence that corporations urgently need to do more to address the plastic pollution crisis they’ve created. Their continued reliance on single-use plastic packaging translates to pumping more throwaway plastic into the environment" Von Hernandez, global coordinator of the Break Free From Plastic movement.
Here in Ireland, you can continue to tackle the problem through taking part in VOICE campaigns such as No Home For Plastic, and Sick OF Plastic Campaign.
Are you a regular volunteer in a local litter pick? Do you work to keep your beaches, town, forest, street, home or office clean from litter? Want to send the message to the producers of that rubbish that this needs to stop.
VOICE as a member of the World Wide Break Free From Plastic Alliance are calling Brands to account for their packaging waste. Last year the Brand Audit analysed 187,000 pieces of waste across 42 countries and 6 continents. Coke was by far the most prolific offender found in 75% of the brand audits conducted world wide.
This year we’re calling on you to take part – You can conduct a brand audit in your workplace, in your garden, on your regular walk or if you already take part in regular littler picks. To get involved there are 3 easy steps:
- All the info is in the infopack here. You can get your data sheet here to record the brands, and the infocard here will help you get set up.
- You can register your Waste audit on the site to be part of the global movement on the site :
- Register your results through the dedicated app : https://www.trashblitzapp.com/...
There are microgrants available to help you to get set up if you’re not already up and running (deadline by September 17th to apply), 2019 Brand Audit Microfund Application Form
That’s all there is to it, there are groups all across, Ireland, Europe and the world taking part and taking producers to task for the rubbish they’re putting into our environment.
To be part of the global conversation you can post up pictures on twitter or facebook, or just search for #BrandAudit2019.
