Empowering Communities Towards a Circular Economy

By Lyndsey O'Connell

We are thrilled to announce that VOICE has been chosen by Community Foundation Ireland (CFI) to mentor 26 dedicated community groups across the Republic of Ireland in developing and implementing Community Circular Economy Action Plans (CCEAP).

Launch of the CCEAP project outside Leinster House. LtoR; Na Guang, Stephen Byrne, Lyndsey O'Connell, Mindy O'Brien, Denise Charlton (CEO of Community Foundation Ireland), and Tad Kirakowski (CEO of VOICE).

This project aims to bridge the gap between academic concepts and actionable community initiatives, fostering a sustainable future through circular economy principles.

Our role at VOICE is to support, facilitate, and inspire these communities, guiding them to understand and integrate circular economy practices into their local contexts.

Over two/three months, each group will be equipped to identify pertinent issues and craft a tailored action plan featuring short, medium, and long-term goals. These plans will not only address immediate needs but also lay the groundwork for sustained community-driven progress.

With seed funding available, the initial actions will be supported, kickstarting the communities' journey toward greater sustainability. Our mentorship will help these groups build the capacity to secure further funding and expand their ambitions, ensuring lasting impact and growth.

We are deeply inspired by the dedication and willingness of these community groups to learn and incorporate new ideas. This project represents a pivotal step in translating circular economy principles into tangible, community-based actions, reinforcing our commitment to a greener, more sustainable Ireland.

Stay tuned as we share updates on this exciting journey and celebrate the incredible work of these hardworking community groups.
