Lunch & Learn with VOICE: Getting waste right in the workplace!

The issue many businesses/organisations face, is that providing separate bins is no guarantee of success in and of itself; it’s not enough to simply provide the correct bins and hope for the best. In order to realise the goal of effective waste segregation in the office, a clear understanding of what items go in which bin, and why, is necessary.

We are often contacted by a company’s sustainability coordinator who is at their wits’ end with poor waste management in the office. They have all the infrastructure in place for effective waste segregation, yet bad habits persist – what can they do?

This is where VOICE’s Lunch & Learns come in!

Why VOICE?

VOICE appears regularly on Ireland's national and local print, radio and TV media.

It’s what we know.

VOICE is Ireland’s leading expert on waste and the circular economy, and we are uniquely positioned to guide businesses and communities on addressing Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

SDG 12 is all about ensuring sustainable patterns of consumption and production—an area where VOICE has been a trusted authority for years.

We dive into the nuances of waste management and sustainability in the Irish context, helping your team understand not just the global goals but also the specific challenges and opportunities here at home.

From navigating Ireland's waste infrastructure to addressing the growing concerns around resource depletion, packaging, and single-use plastics, our expertise equips your organisation/community group/ team to take meaningful action.

We don’t just talk theory, we bring actionable, practical solutions that align with local realities, making real and meaningful changes achievable for your team.

Both informative and informal, our Lunch & Learn workshop covers all things waste. From global impacts to local, what happens when we get things right and what happens to the environment when we get things wrong. We look at waste in our day-to-day lives and examine ways in which can reduce the amount of waste we produce. We also talk about the trickier waste items and what bins they should really go in, e.g. receipts, anyone?

Knowledge is Power, and our Lunch & Learns are designed to empower your team with the information they need to make meaningful changes, within your organisation or at home.

Our planet is running out of resources, but populations are continuing to grow. This can feel overwhelming, but our Lunch & Learns offer a glimmer of hope in an eco-anxious world.

We show participants how simple changes in consumption habits and a shift toward more sustainable energy and waste practices can make a real difference.

These sessions are packed with actionable tips and easy-to-implement strategies, leaving attendees feeling informed, inspired, and empowered.

How can our Lunch & Learns help?

Meaningful change happens when people feel empowered and engaged and that’s exactly what our Lunch & Learns are designed to achieve.

Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12) provides a clear framework for organizations to make a difference by addressing the way we consume and produce resources.

Our workshops have a proven track record of inspiring teams/local action groups to take action within their workplaces/communities, whether it’s launching waste-reduction initiatives, improving recycling practices, or even setting up green committees to champion sustainability from within.

The benefits aren’t just planetary. Reducing waste can also help lower operational costs, cut bills, and demonstrate a commitment to responsible business practices; something that resonates with employees, clients, and stakeholders alike. What’s more, fostering a culture of sustainability boosts morale, creating a sense of shared purpose that energises teams and builds stronger connections.

When individuals and teams buy into a shared mission, amazing things happen. Our Lunch & Learns provide the spark that turns great ideas into impactful actions.

So, if you’re at the end of your tether and feel you’ve done all you can to help your colleagues to segregate your waste correctly, perhaps it’s time to give VOICE a call and ask about our Lunch & Learn workshop. You’ll join a growing group of businesses from all over Ireland who are happy that they did just that.

“DBFL recently invited Colin Byrne from VOICE Ireland to deliver a Lunch & Learn session to our team as part of our Green Week programme, and the experience was extremely positive. Colin provided an engaging and informative overview not only of general waste management in Ireland, but also of the wider work being carried out by VOICE Ireland to promote waste reduction, circular economy thinking and more sustainable behaviours at community and national level.

The session struck an excellent balance between practical insights into everyday waste challenges and a broader perspective on the systemic changes needed to address Ireland’s waste issues. Colin’s down-to-earth style and natural sense of humour made the session particularly enjoyable and helped make complex topics accessible to a diverse professional audience. His approachable delivery created a relaxed atmosphere that encouraged participation and thoughtful discussion.

Attendees particularly valued learning more about the initiatives and advocacy work led by VOICE Ireland, as this provided important context on how individual and organisational actions fit into wider environmental efforts. The talk has helped to raise awareness across our company and has supported ongoing conversations around sustainability within our workplace.

We would highly recommend Colin and VOICE Ireland to organisations seeking an engaging, informative and well-rounded introduction to waste management and the circular economy.”
